Most players just participate in the game of basketball. Others control it, They control the pace, the style, and the spacing of the game. When Luka Doncic enters the game, everything slows down. When Giannis gets rolling, the game starts to move at a breakneck pace. Some or the most electric players in the league don’t truly control the game, and some players don’t appear to be stars with the numbers alone, but when you watch them play you see it. When people talk about an X-Factor that makes a player a superstar, that is the X-Factor. Cade Cunningham has that X-Factor. He is not a superstar yet, and he likely won’t reach that level for a few seasons. But he has what it takes.

With all the rule changes to help offensive players it was only a matter of time before the NBA found a new direction but this shooting era of FTs and 3s is getting out of control I remember a 3 minute stretch in the finals this year when they missed 10 straight 3s combined, and you’re right it did look like a LA Fitness game 😂

This whole basketball thing of certain basketball athletes not being able to play the athletic sport of basketball with other basketball athletes is outrageously over-analyzed.
It seems to me that once the politics of basketball (along with all the coaching- and media- nuances get involved), then that’s where all the problems arise. Meaning, all basketball athletes have been able to win and play the athletic sport of basketball with whoever is on the basketball court…basketball athletes have been doing it since the AAU days and since the “blacktop” days.

Love the Rico Hines runs…but this is just too casual. Even for practice. This is the problem with the NBA today – every game looks like a scrimmage with players just going through the motions. Golden state is about the only team that runs any consistent sets on offence – every other team just plays some version of motion. Mid season games are literally being played at this pace.

I think there should be greater defensive efforts in games like these to better round off the player’s game. Players backing off and allowing easy shots become habitual. Too often we see the same “lazy” approach on the real courts.

In the season, teams have better organized team defense strategies, but they still going hard AF in these runs. And it’s sick seeing the close camera angles. But it’s different, you’re not going to see someone take a charge for example, or set a 100 screens.
