What about diversity among the players ?

Greg V I actually agree with you in a lot of ways, seems like you got a pretty good idea of what’s what. But this is an issue , don’t dismiss that. 75% of the league is black, ppl aren’t asking for coaches to represent that makeup as well. They are just saying when it comes to the hiring, treatment and longevity of these jobs , the same courtesy isn’t extended to POC, including even the interviewing process in the past as well. At the end of the day, us as humans when we can relate to somebody, we favor them, and so when a lot of these general managers, coaching staffs, and executives are white they’re hiringβ€˜s reflect that more times than not.

I really don’t think the 04 Pistons comparison really works. Yes they have a cohesive team with toughness. However, that Lakers team that they beat really beat themselves because of the Shaq/Kobe situation. This Lakers team is just as cohesive and as tough as the Heat, they just so happen to have two superstars as well.

There were 5/30 black head coaches this season. That’s 16%. America has 12% black population. 2 of those black coaches got fired after giving them multiple chances. Doc is most likely back in the league next season so that’s 4/30 black head coaches which is 12% like the population of America. I disagree with this take because you have the same percentage of black coaches as the American population. White people dominate the position because they have numbers.

    • Gamingdoc

      October 1, 2020 at 8:10 pm

Then β€œWhites” should dominate the league.

    • Phoenix Vanquish

      October 1, 2020 at 8:36 pm

@Gamingdoc you can be 5’6 and be a coach like the Van Gundy’s. Athleticism has nothing to with coaching.

On average black Americans are more athletic than white Americans. They are more fit to play basketball which is why we see an abundance of black people in the league despite lower populations. Coaching has nothing to do with genetics.

  11. Vernon Blyden

    October 1, 2020 at 8:35 pm

The failure of black athletes unifying and forcing diversity has been an still is their biggest problem. The three point shot and the step back three pointer will diversify the league even more because you wont have to be super athletically gifted to be good at it.

If Kobe was given the choice between Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers, he would choose Phil. You don’t choose based on race, you choose based on merit.

Kobe would be ashamed of this narrative.
