Perk is normally praising the Jazz and that’s awesome as a fan but he’s straight up wrong about Ben as DPOY. Most if not all the metrics point to Rudy Gobert.

If you watch any Jazz game you will realize that every teams offensive game plan completely changes the second Gobert is off the floor. His defensive impact is insane.
On a jazz team where Royce O’Neale is the only other decent defender, the fact that they are a top 5 defense in the league shows how good Gobert is.

That Defensive Real Plus Minus stat is insane from Rudy Gobert. It’s not a great stat for measuring defensive impact by perimeter players, but it is very good for measuring defensive impact by bigs.

Perk’s a moron. When you look at most defensive efficiency ratings, Rudy leads the league by a mile. In fact, Simmons usually isn’t even ranked 2nd on those lists. Just because you’re ‘versatile’ doesn’t mean you’re DPOY worthy. Rudy changes the game like no other defender.

Ask any active players and/or coaches and they will overwhelmingly tell you Gobert is the best DPOY. He’s a problem for every opposing team, in a way that Ben Simmons is not.

Perks needs to wake up. The other day in one possession three different guys went to the rim, shot faking but were too scared to shoot cause Rudy was there. They just kept passing it and finally settled for a outside shot.
Gobert easily wins this award.
In almost every defensive category Rudy beats Simmons.
