I respect kirk, but hack a shaq is one of the most useful tactics for winning a game. If your goal is for an ecstaticly pleasing game, then watch highlights of each team. Dont try to undermine the principles in winning a basketball game

It’s smart to hack him. If players can’t master one of the simplest skills in the game, they should be exploited. It’s an embarrassment to the fans when a professional athlete can’t master a skill as well as some middle-school players. All any of these players have to do is get to around 65% and they’ll be left alone. If you can’t work that out in the summer, then you deserve it.

I consider making your free throws part of the game. If you cannot make your free throws in crunch time, you are a liability to your team. Liabilities should be exploited, just like setting picks to switch on a weaker defender or double or triple teaming strong offensive players. Nothing dishonorable about that.

What I would consider dishonorable, is what Michael Jordan had to endure when he played the Pistons in the playoffs in the late eighties. Whenever he drove the lane, he would get hit hard by multiple defenders. The defense was all about stopping MJ and wasn’t too concerned about giving MJ serious injuries or not. How did MJ respond? He trained like crazy, bulked up, came back the next year, beat the Pistons and won his first NBA title and start the Bulls dynasty.

So instead of calling ‘hack a Simmons’ a dishonorable play, better encourage Simmons to practise his free throws like a madman.

He’s Brick Simmons. Put him on the line instead of letting him get buckets at the rim. Rookie of the Year should be a decent free throw shooter unless you’re like a 7 foot big man. Simmons has no excuse for how poor his shooting % is, he’s just not been in the lab enough, and he should be hacked as penalty haha.

You don’t need to be great but you shouldn’t be terrible as a point guard free throw shooter. Imagine being able to do a hack a shaq strategy on a starting PG

Wonder why Doc Rivers love playing with that kind of handicap. Hack-A-Ben is annoying for Sixers of course but strategic for ATL because it made them disturb the play(game)of 76ers and it also helps them taking advantage when it matter or when it could matter the most. Maybe Ben will understand that being an Elite player is not only about defense and passing. It is unacceptable for a player to be the target of all ATL because He is dumb on the free throw line!! UNACCEPTABLE!!

SMART. I’d Hack him the entire 48 minutes. he shoots less than 50 percent free throws. Mathematically the 76ers going to score about 60 points if you hacked simmons the entire game.

Capela a great defender but has trouble tracking the more mobile Embiid. Simmons gives trae young trouble especially with size in paint . His penetrate and pitch game is not optimal when more movement and ball movement is best versus this defense is best for all those great perimeter shooters they have. Lou Williams the scoring rabbit was not mentioned and he d give them a different look off the dribble as he is a point a minute but not a distributor.

It’s a very interesting psychological game. In the regular season, every time you put him on the free throw line for 2 attempts, he scored an average of 1.22 points. That’s more points than if the team attempted a 3 (1.12 on average) or a 2 (1.06 on average).

61% on free throws is a disgrace for a guard, but let’s be clear: if he can merely hit 55% the Hack-a-Ben strategy is a failure, because it will produce more points per possession for the Sixers than the average Sixers possession.

So it’s a gamble that right now, in the playoffs, Simmons is going to be unable to shoot even Simmons-level of free throw shooting. And so far it’s working. Through 3 games of round 2, he’s shooting 7-16, i.e., only 0.875 points per 2 attempts.

Simmons needs to learn how to shoot underhanded like Rick Barry and raise his free throw %. He probably won’t do it though cause he’s more concerned about what people think of him shooting like that than making more free throws.

Nah if ur a star in this league u gotta be complete when my wizards that one game vs the sixers we won cause Ben couldn’t make freethrows and If he could then they would’ve swept us. It’s the same with us if we are up on a team I’d expect opponents to play smart and foul Westbrook because we all know Westbrook is terrible at the line, it’s the same as players not guarding up on players because they cant shoot
