It’s just a sad attempt to avoid shortening the season from a ridiculous 82 games to a more entertaining 50 games.
Also, the cash prizes mean nothing to a league of millionaires. The winning team should get something substantial like an extra elimination game during the playoffs. That would make this tournament MEAN something

If you’re familiar with football (soccer), then this in-season tournament is the NBA’s take on the League Cup in England. However, since it’s only teams in the NBA & there aren’t any other major North American leagues besides the G-League, it’s going to be hard to make fans care.
The FA Cup in Britain takes teams from the top league all the way down to amateur leagues. Anyone can play anyone. That’s what makes it exciting. In this NBA take on it, it’s all teams that play each other anyway. It’s like a mini playoffs in the middle of the season. I think it’s a cool idea, but most NBA fans won’t give two sh*ts about it.

They should find a way to make the seeding more important. Seeds 1 thru 6 should not be virtually the same with the tiny exception of 1 extra home game. That’s not a big enough motivation to care. Make them care about where they rank in the seeding.

The video game courts are hard (annoying) to look at. Most NBA fans were ready to come back and see the games… If the players play hard, we’ll watch. LBJ can’t hold the entire league down forever.

The players don’t care because they’re getting guaranteed money! Too many of the players are overrated and overpaid so why would they care about a meaningless tournament?? What’s the incentive?
