Jokic is a true unicorn. There are some similarities to Bird. But Bird was a more versatile scorer, definitely a better shooter. And they’re both great passers, but Jokic is a bit more focused on playmaking. The better comp is Lakers Wilt. When he was in the second half of his career giving you 20–24 pts/gm while averaging 7–8 assists (even leading the league 1 year) and obviously still giving like 18–20 rebounds. To me that’s Jokic. Except Jokic can obviously shoot a bit, at least for a center. But he’s no sniper. So it’s not like it’s a primary component of his game. But he’s a big man, same height as Wilt. Scores most of his points in the paint. Facilitates plays out of the post. Great rebounder. Wilt was not nearly as athletic in the second half of his career either.
But like I said Jokic is a true unicorn. But so were Bird and Wilt. At a certain level of greatness guys just don’t have any great comps. They’re unique. 1 of a kind. Cuz if there were multiple of them it wouldn’t be great. It would be ordinary.
