Another problem is the fans and media want every player who can jump high in the dunk contest, you have to be super creative to win not just jumping high.

At this point do the social media dunk stars since the NBA stars no longer care for it. The ones we really want. We missed out on watching LeBron and Kobe go at it in Dunk Contest 😩

Steven A idea isn’t original, what he’s talking about was done several years ago with slam dunkers from all across the United States competing in their state to complete and qualify for the US slam dunking championships.

There was also a international slam dunking contest that included slam dunkers from different countries around the world who competed for the title of world’s best dunker with a huge financial prize.

It’s a great idea and those street ballers can really dunk.

Bad idea…… you wanna get them paid. Come
With another idea besides piggy backing on the all star game. U wanna fix the game get better nudges. And make it worth them boys wild so the good dunkers participate. Besides the judges the β€˜em system is good, the players need to make dunks

Maybe have this before the dunk comp? I think if influencers get involved it will drum up more attention and the young stars will be keener to be involved, also grab some bad af instathots to cheerlead lmao

Street dunkers don’t need to be coached by NBA players on how to dunk. Most Street dunkers are doing stuff NBA players haven’t done

This has always been the fix. Get dunkers from outside the NBA. A $1,000,000 prize ain’t much to a NBA star. But to a normal human, its life changing. The wrinkle of aligning a NBA player to a dunker is great

Just pay the NBA stars enough to do it and they will. That’s a much better idea than replacing part of all star weekend with players who aren’t actually pro’s.

They just need an incentive to get the players to do it, think out of the box. For example, what if the winner was guaranteed a shoe deal? Cut a deal with Nike, make a Slam Dunk line of shoes. The winner gets to be the new spokesperson, they get the yearly shoe named after them and they get whatever cut that comes from that particular shoes. This can also make it more likely previous champs will defend their title.

I don’t mind players not going to the dunk contest, but when LeBron teased the whole NBA saying he was going to join and then back out, it made me hate this whole charade

The All-Star skills competition is there to show off the various skillsets of star players IN THE NBA to promote the NBA. Bringing in one-dimensional dunkers off the street makes the players and the league look worse. The NBA needs to incentivize the players to do it by 1) ONLY having past NBA dunkers as judges 2) fixing the scoring system and going to a 100 or 10.0 scoring system because most good dunks are between 9 and 10 and 3) jacking up the winnings to at least a million. Nobody cares if Joe Schmo wins the dunk contest because if they did they would have their own show.

The reason of “avoiding” injury is a lame excuse. If that’s the case, Jordan, Kobe, Vince shouldn’t join the contest back then.

And the Skills Challenge, they’re no longer running fast they jog. Participants during DWade’s time runs and moves fast over the obstacles.

Maybe it’s time to bring back Real Cash Prizes. There’s no other way to motivate NBA players today to compete at such events but to give cash prize as incentives.

What’s the last cash prize back in the day? 25k to 50k?

It’s a great idea. But sure, give another reason for these NBA players not to play or participate in their own league.
