The teams pay you to play the regular season to get to the playoffs but they get all off their money if they don’t make the playoffs.

They just need to reduce the amount of games each season. I hooped in college and a 28 game season + 2-3 hour practices/workouts 7 days a week was no joke. 82 games is ridiculous when you really think about it

Could also add a roster spot or two, enhance the G League, or make it easier for foreign players to transition to the NBA. Baseball has twice the amount of games but they have a deep enough roster to be able to withstand it. There may be some other solutions too. I don’t mind taking games off where it’s needed or restricting minutes in order to be strategic. With increased technology and awareness about the human body, that seems par for the course. Look at KD for example who tried to fight his way through injury and then ended up losing an entire season. Pushing beyond the body’s limits is real. We can’t compare it to the MJ era either because the speed of the game is so much more demanding now. There are other solutions though that might enhance the game (like a 16 man roster for example).

Why is it ridiculous now, when the people who paved the way for these players today to make the kind of money they make could do it, at any cost. You said you hooped in college, if you was able to play those 28 games, make 5mil, get the treatment these guys do, have the practices these guys have because practice in the NBA isnt what it used to be and probably not as hard as college practices because there are lots of times its treatment and walk throughs, that you’d have a problem with that? These are professional athletes. This is their job and very few players have that killer workout mentality so alot do the basic practice then they’re done..they just did 2 hours of so so intensity, got treatment, and can now enjoy their lives.

@Mike Robinson You made good points and I definitely would play every game no problem for 5 mil a year😂.
But think about it from the player’s perspective, basketball is your career that pays well…as long as your healthy enough to play. I think a lot of them just don’t want to risk injury and their career gets cut short. They want to play in the league as long as possible and I can understand that side of it

What Adam Silver says in the opening is very refreshing to hear from a commissioner. He’s saying what a lot of fan bases have thought for years. When you have guys like Ben Simmons get generational wealth, then disappear it can absolutely kill a franchise for years. Even the John Wall, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook type contracts have become nearly untradeable or impossible to work around. In a team sport you don’t want one player to be able to crush the hopes of an entire franchise if he decides to take the money and run. In the CBA I’d imagine that many players’ first instinct might be to fight against restructuring guarantees/pay, however if this one aspect of the contractual side of team building is able to be fixed or at least if the downside is able to be largely mitigated, then it lifts the entire league’s potential because overall parity is improved yr in and yr out. That’s essentially what the NFL does well. Every team has a chance every year hence “any given Sunday.” Basketball is a more lovable game especially internationally, so it really should set its aim to be the number one sport in the world. It can be that. That would increase everybody involved 💰 too. To do it, certain players would have to make compromises on their guarantees, but if players show up they’ll still get their money. The only guys that would really fight it are the type of dudes that want the comfort of being able to take the money and run. It’s a complex issue that would take a lot of long-term consideration and maturity, but the overall upside seems worth it. When you reach a point where David can beat Goliath then you will have the world’s intrigue imo.

I’m all for load management.. f*ck your ticket if the star player doesn’t play when you’re in the arena. We want the team to succeed and part of that is having the best player play on games which matter most (playoffs or even finals)

your assessment is the main problem the NBA faces. it is a legitimate concern long term. if you keep saying f*ck your ticket, people will eventually agree and not buy them anymore. they will say f*ck the star player for not playing this is not worth my money or my time. it all catches up to you in the end.

Are you ₱@¢@ing kidding me. Your going to take money away from players when they miss games when injuries are such a big problem. It’s not like you’re going to give the ticket price back to fans if their star didn’t show up. Players are the hard working product of this industry and the rich owners are crying that they are not ripping enough of the profits. Give me a break silver.

Every contract should have incentives for games played and performance.

Defiantly is a lower management problem. Players talks time off because they’re tired. They don’t t play back to back games anymore. Plus hole sleep staff

Dominique thinks he understands what is happening, but he doesn’t. The NBA is losing fans in the US. They’ve been able to sort of make up for it by expanding globally, but the real reason the money keeps increasing is because the oligarchs who actually run the world view the NBA, like all forms of entertainment, as a distraction worth investing in as they accelerate toward complete control over the “masses.” State Street, Black Rock, and Vanguard own the majority share in every single Fortune 500 company (look it up), and they cross pollinate ownership amongst each other (with Vanguard being private, allowing for total obfuscation). So don’t act like the fans are cool with what the NBA players are doing – they’re not. It’s just that the fans are irrelevant at this point. NBA players are simply taking part in a power game to distract the masses, and they are the proverbial dancing monkeys for the so called elite. The truth is that the competitive spirit of the NBA as a sport has diminished significantly, save a few players like Curry and Doncic who still love competition at the highest levels. That’s very obvious.

If they don’t wanna pay them for sitting regular season games when resting are they paying them for the extra games in the post season?

These analysts have no idea what it means to be an athlete. Load management is needed for sustainability. These athletes are stronger and faster than ever and they’re wearing sneakers with no true ankle support. Let them play less games and make less money then. Simple as that.

The NBA doesn’t have a load management problem. Besides Kyrie and Ben Simmons, who else has really taken significant time just sitting on the bench or whatever over the last few years? The real issue is players not fulfilling their contracts with one team and constantly moving around the league. It doesn’t allow for a culture to be built around the franchise, and culture is what builds and sustains fanbases. Just look at Golden State. Their fans are LOYAL, because their main stars were built through the draft, also winning championships helps a lot too lolll

The league needs defensive rules to be brought back. Playing defense will extinguish 2/3rds of these “stars”. Once that happens everything from super team bs to load management will be solved.

The league is fine. It’s just players and people in general getting softer and softer. If your injured or at risk of serious injury than sit til your 100%. If your healthy go do your job at maximum effort and try to dominate the competition. Keep the season and playoffs the way its always been. 82 games, 7 game series. The contracts should be re structured so these weak players stop getting away with sitting out when they feel like it and all this team hopping demanding trades if everything doesn’t go there way. It needs to be fair both ways. Can’t let the owners get over on the players but with all the benefits they’ve earned and been given and the millions they make the players need to stop being divas, do the right thing.

This argument sounds like rich greedy people arguing how to divided the billions. As a spurs fan I never had a problem with pop resting players. I got a lot more years of enjoyment watching them cos they had longer than average careers…
