Is it time for the NBA to stop penalizing players for leaving the bench? | The Jump

Rachel Nichols, Zach Lowe and Richard Jefferson discuss the NBA’s decision to switch from Spalding basketballs to Wilson in 2021-22. They also (2:27) use the anniversary of P.J. Brown flipping Charlie Ward during Miami Heat vs. New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash getting hip-checked by San Antonio Spurs forward Robert Horry — leading to the suspensions of teammates Amar’e Stoudemire and Boris Diaw — as a jumping-off point to discuss penalties for players leaving the bench.

@Brandon Haymon They need to allow the players to have more emotion and be aggressive on the court, just joking with the chill pill.

Phoenix could have won that series. That was their best team in the Nash/Stoudemire era. And they would have won the championship, they would have easily beaten Utah and then Cleveland.

In the 2011 finals there were players at the scorers table(I believe Lebron and Dirk were among them) that ended up on the floor during a scuffle and I’m so glad they didn’t suspend anyone that go around.

This rule has been around for years, so if a player forgets, tough luck. It’s not like their teammate is in any real danger and needs help.

David dam stern took a titile away from the Suns. Up 3-2 going back to Phoenix & they suspend 2 of the top 6 players for the suns. Stoudamire & diaw for talking 1 step onto the court after Horry hip checked nash out of bounce. In the dam western conference finals!! Total joke..

I wish that Nash went to Denver and Iverson went to Phoenix. Their careers wouldve been completely different.

Players on the court need to grab their teammate and stop grabbing someone from the opposing team.
