Even without J-Dub, and Cason Wallace, OKC is still a contender.

It’s not just losing J-Dub and Wallace. It’s losing Dort, Wiggins and Joe, too. Not to mention Caruso will be out for a few weeks.

They’ve suddenly gone from a team with 10-11 starters and the most ridiculous guard/wing rotation in the NBA with elite defenders everywhere, to a team with no bench, and outside their bigs, no defenders besides Shai who is a pretty good but not great defender. Caruso will obviously be back, but he’s not going to be able to sell out as much as he does in terms of aggression without other guys like Dort, Wallace, or J-Dub to back him up.

We lost some wolverines on defense. Chet has to be a difference maker offenively every nite 23+ avg to be contenders

4 of their top 6 players are injured.
      Jdub, caso, holmgren, and caruso.
Add that they lost half of their bench last year.

Hard to be a contender with that situation.

Yaxel is what happens when a talented kid has an unconventional path to the NBA. Bro used to be getting in trouble going down the wrong path then got a job at the same warehouse as his mom loading for 12 hour shifts, literally doing the strenuous work his mom has been doing to provide for him, his mom gets cancer and by chance she sends him to a random basketball camp where he got noticed. He never even played organized ball until junior college and has already been experienced to what life can be, so thatโ€™s why he sticks out to me I can tell by his game, he hoops like me or my mom are never going back to the warehouse, gotta take care of moms and ima be respectful while doing it just like mom raise him to be. Love this kid, heโ€™s more than just a talented prospect, he has real life grit and experience charging him up.

If SGA really came back better after the offseason (big IF), and Mitchell is obviously better, then OKC should be the favorites. They went 7 games against the Spurs without J Dub and Mitchell last year. Also, historically young teams don’t make it back to the Finals for some years.
